BRITISH PRISON: TWITTER LISTS

Three lists of tweeters to help anyone who wants to know what’s happening in UK prisons

Finding valuable tweets can sometimes feel like trying to follow one tiny bird in a huge, fast-moving flock. Twitter lists can help drown out some of the nonsensical twittering, so you can focus on the wiser and more beautiful voices.

We have made three lists: a general British prisons one, a charities list and one for researchers and other academic types.

GENERAL UK PRISONS LIST

The first and broadest list has 56 members (so far) including government bodies, charities, news outlets, volunteer organisations, academics and other assorted experts.

It allows you to follow crucial events such as this protest outside Brixton prison:

CHARITIES AND VOLUNTEERS

The next list has 45 members from charities, volunteers organisations and other non-governmental bodies.

We recently spotted this heart-wrenching letter from a mother worried about her son in a youth offenders institution. She wrote to Inside Time, the newspaper for prisoners in the UK and another excellent source of information.

RESEARCHERS AND OTHER EXPERTS

Our final list contains various researchers and academics as well as other experts. Its 34 members are a good source for reports and data as well as just keeping up with the prison news in general.

It can help you spot new reports and data such as this one:

DID WE MISS ANYTHING?

We will be adding (and possibly subtracting) from these lists as we go along, so please let us know if we have missed any good sources and we will be happy to add them.
